When I think back to James & Ruth’s day at the beginning of March, I am literally filled with so much emotion. The butterflies while walking through Canary Wharf, preparing for my first wedding of 2020 and the excitement of knowing how amazing the day ahead was going to be.
I was in Venice last summer when I received the email from these guys and knew instantly I wanted to photograph their day – they spoke about how they shared the same love for things like Autumn & Space and I was completely sold by their vision for the day, not to mention their incredible choice of venues. I’ve come to love London weddings more and more over the past couple of years, having captured mainly Bath & Bristol venues, I just adore the uniqueness and charm London ones bring.
This day completely exceeded my expectations – having just a small group of loved ones with them, it was such a chilled, intimate atmosphere with the most important aspect – gin & donuts. The Asylum Chapel was filled with candles and florals set to an intricate background tune provided by a String Trio. Post-ceremony, we all hopped onto a Routemaster blasting out reggae music and made our way towards Vauxhall to start the afternoon celebrations at Brunswick House. This venue is just pure awesome – each room has it’s own quirkiness and their trestle table was laced with fortune cards, flowers and dinosaur figurines. And the best part?! The party… a heap of J & R’s friends came along and filled out the basement of the house with each room again offering a different activity from a tattoo station, to photobooth, to a red-lit bar and pitch black disco room.
James & Ruth are just simply such wonderful people who I am so grateful to have met. This day happened just before Coronavirus started to get serious and if it had been a week later, it probably wouldn’t have been able to go ahead. I feel so incredibly lucky to have had these guys on my screen for the first couple of weeks of lockdown. It kept me sane, creative and feeling fulfilled and I’m already sad that I no longer have them to edit! The great thing is, I now have Ruth and her lovely affirmation card pulls on Instagram to keep me going through the next few weeks. This is a day I will remember in my career for a long, long time.
