Last Wednesday I received an email from Matteo explaining his plans to propose to his girlfriend that weekend at Prior Park. I cannot explain how excited I was even just to be asked to photograph this, so I made sure I could squeeze it in on the Sunday.
I ran in as soon as the gates opened and headed straight down to the bridge to find the best spot to hide. Turns out there wasn’t really a way of being completely hidden, so instead I opted for acting as the ‘person just chilling out by themselves in the park…. first thing Sunday morning…. in the rain…’
She wouldn’t suspect anything, right?
I kept in touch with Matteo to find out where they were and what they were wearing etc, not that it would be hard to spot them as luckily, we were pretty much the only people there!
As soon as they emerged from the trees, I was just struck with nerves and adrenalin just waiting for the moment he got down on one knee and trying to choose my timing perfectly so that I didn’t get my camera out too soon.
As soon as Matteo had proposed, the rain just absolutely poured and it was just so atmospheric and so cosy – I love the rain anyway so I was in my element, not to mention the fact that I also got to try out my new umbrella!
What a perfect, perfect moment between such a lovely couple. I am so privileged that I got to be a part of it.
I am so excited at the thought of photographing future proposals… If you’re planning one yourself, you know where to find me!
